Hi does anyone have a good methodical approach or a flow chart in selecting integration methods for different types of problems? I need to be able to quickly identify integrals for a final exam.
With quizzes it's not a big deal since you know what chapter the test is on so you just use the methods in the current chapters. But when I look at some intergrals over the whole course, it's not obvious to me how to solve some of them. Does anyone have a sure fire methodical system? Some kind of process of elimination? or process of inclination?

Internet is a wonderful thing! Here are a couple I found in two seconds:

The best process is to do lots of practice problems. This method allows you to get a feel for what situations require which integration technique. It also saves you having to try to multiply a long list, and then try to match exercises (and word problems!) to memorized patterns. ;)

thanks... My teacher is a total phycho. She assigns a huge amount of HW problems yet none of the problems that end up on the exams resemble the HW.
It's got to the point where I don't even do her assigned homeworks. I just bought a couple different text books and I do those problems in there. coincidently the alternate problem sets are actually more in line with the tests .You have to stay one step against these freak shows. With instructors it's not about teaching, it's about them stoking their own egos and playing head games with students.

That sounds a lot like what I did for one of my chemistry classes. And it worked, too! Good for you for going that extra mile!
