"A suit is on sale for 25% discount. You paid $93.15, including a 8% sales tax. Find the original price of the suit."

Let n = the original price of the suit
0.75n = 25% discount
0.08n = 8% sales tax
0.75n + 0.08n = $93.15
0.83n = 93.15
93.15 x 1/0.83 = 112.228915663

I think the sales tax is applied to the actual price you paid, not the original price.

I'll do one better. I know that the sales tax is applied to the price that you actually pay for the suit, not the original price. Sales tax is added to what you pay, not what you should have paid, not what you didn't pay but what you paid.
