Is My Work Correct? solve x^2 + 1 = -8

1) x^2 +1 = -8

x^2 = -9
x = +/- square root -9
x = +/- i * square root 9
x = +/- 3i

My solutions are -3i and 3i

2) 4y^2 + 8 = 2y^2

2y^2 = -8
y^2 = -4
y = +/- square root of -2
y = +/- i * square root of 2

My solutions are i sqrt(3) and -i sqrt(3)
 
You seem to have the idea, except for one important point. The words "and" and "or" mean something.

For example, there is no value that is equal to 3 AND equal to -3.
