I have data as follows:

Code:
x 2 3 6 7 9
y 5 6 6 6 6
How do I find the equation of the line of best fit?

What method did they cover in class?

Thank you.

line of best fit

I don't know. I'm a mother trying to figure this stuff out from the textbook!

Okay; what method does the book say to use?

(There are different methods; we need to know which method your class is covering.)

Thank you.

I have gone back through the book and I am unable to figure this out. I have 4 choices. The problem again

x 2 3 6 7 9
y 5 6 6 6 6

I am to find the equation of the line of best fit.
The choices are:
a) y=0.10x +8.74
b) y=0.123x +5.25
c) y= 0.123x +8.74
d) y=0.10x +5.25

Wasn't this topic covered in the book somewhere? Isn't there at least some example showing what method you're supposed to use? Didn't your instructor do an example in class?

Are you supposed to do a by-hand least-squares fit? Are you supposed to draw the dots, eye-ball the line, and make a guess? Are you supposed to use the graphing calculator to do a linear regression?

What method are you supposed to use?
