… (x^2 - 4 ) = (x^2 - 2^2 ) = (x - 2)(x + 2) …
Sorry for this question, but I am new in your forum. My question is about this symbol ^. Is that ^ means multiplication?

You don't need to apologize, for asking math questions here! :)

We use the caret symbol ^ to show an exponent.

Type \(\displaystyle x^{2}\) like this: x^2

Type \(\displaystyle a^{m + n}\) like this: a^(m + n)

You can learn more notations for typing math expressions at Formatting Math as Text.

That link also appears in the forum guidelines, along with other useful information.
