Question is as follows:
A uniform rod AB of weight W is pivoted at A and rests in equilibrium at 30 degrees above the horizontal through A with the end B resting on a smooth peg. C is vertically above A such that angle ABC = 90 degrees. D is the midpoint of BC. Show that triangle ADC can be used as a triangle of forces for the rod. Hence find the reaction at B.
Answer gives W*rt3/4 but I am unable to get this answer.
This is from Humphreys O level additional mathematics vol. 2 mechanics. I think the question should say angle ACB = 90 degrees but I'm not sure. If I'm right then solution should be: reaction at B to be W*rt3/2.
Any advice which can give clarity on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
