My dad wants my little brother to find out how to obtain every number from 0-55 just by using four 4's.

The possible operations are:
+, -, *, /, ^, log, ln, min, max, mean, med, mode, floor, ceiling and putting two numbers together.

He's stuck on 55.

Iv'e tried 44+4+4 and lots of others but I couldn't get it either. Please help!

To my knowledge, there is no "formula" or "algorithm" for this sort of exercise. You just have to give yourself some time, fiddle with the numbers and operations, and see what you can come up with.

And I'm sure you can hit up your dad for some hints!

Have fun! :D

Well, I alcually can do it:
4+floor(ln(4))=5 so doing it twice will get two 5's or 55, but I'm looking for an easier way that my little brother can actully think of. He's just in 2nd grade after all.

Your father told your brother to try using logarithms, exponentiation, and floor and ceiling functions. This would imply that your brother is familiar with them, wouldn't it...? :?:
