[MOVED] In what class can I expect to start on limits?

I am in the middle of precal right now, (called algebra 3 at my high school)

When does one start to explore limits of functions?

Also, when does one start to use the summation symbol which I see in a ton of equations? Usually by the end of precal? or beginning of calculus 1, (for me) in college?

Limits usually come at or near the beginning of a first calculus course; they lead up to derivatives.

Summations, while technically algebra (for finite ones, anyway), are often left until after some integration (a second calculus course).
