What was your purpose in posting this?

And why in "beginning algebra" rather than "arithmetic"?

Is this your test - or - our test?

What are your thoughts?

If you are stuck at the beginning tell us and we'll start with the definitions.

Please share your work with us ... even if you know it is wrong

Here is the cleanest way I know how to do these problems. You need to add/subtract the terms. The terms are separated by addition and subtraction symbols. You can write (or at least think) 7-4+3x0+1 as 7,4,3x0,1. So now you have the terms (7,4,3x0 and 1). You know the value of each term except for 3x0 which is 0. Now that we know the value of each term we can add and subtract the term. So we have 7-4+0+1=3+0+1=3+1=4

There is no addition of 3! There is an addition of 3x0!
