Needs to solve this problem and doesn't know how to set it up to solve it.

A number is decreased by 45. The result is then divided by 12. Then 20 is added to this new result to give a final result of 25. What is the number?

We know the answer is 105 but how should she begin?

Thank you so much for your help.

I am assuming she is in an Algebra class

Assume that the number = x

A number is decreased by 45.? x - 45

The result is then divided by 12. ? (x - 45)/12

Then 20 is added to this new result ? (x - 45)/12 + 20

to give a final result of 25 ? (x - 45)/12 + 20 = 25

Now solve the equation above for 'x'
