.02(5000) + .03x = .025(5000 + x)
2(5000) + 3x = 2.5(5000 + x)
10000 + 3x = 12500 + x
-10000 - x = -10000 - x
2x=2500
x=1250
this isnt right, the answer is 5000 somehow (sorry, im really bad at math)

thanks in advance!

would i move the decimal out 2 places:
2(5000) + 3x = 2.5(5000 + x)
or 3?:
20(5000) + 30x = 25(5000 + x)

thanks in advance!

Either way will work. If you want to eliminate decimals completely, then you want to move the decimal point in each term 3 places to the right (which means multiplying both sides of the equation by 1000).

OKAY!!! I NEED TO STOP BEING DUMB!!! I'm sorry I posted again over a stupid simple mistake on my part.

should be: 10000 + 3x = 12500 + 2.5x : that's your mistake, right?

Well, that don't make you DUMB, justa bit careless, that's all;
HINT: after you write down a solution line, CHECK it once before your next step:
you'll save yourself lots of headaches...plus get higher marks on your tests.
