idk how to solve [the given system of two equations for x and y]
Hi mystxgon. To begin, we need to understand matrix multiplication (to get from what's labeled as B1 to M1). Do you understand how they went from the given matrix equation to the system of two equations?

There are two common methods for solving a system of two equations containing two variables. (In this exercise, k represents a constant.) One is called the 'Substitution Method' and the other is called the 'Elimination Method'. You may use one or the other – or a combination of both.

Please follow the forum guidelines and explain where you need help. If you've tried any steps, then please share those, too.

If you understand the Elimination Method, but you're having trouble, then try multiplying the second equation by 2, followed by adding the resulting equation to equation 1. That will eliminate the y variable, leaving an equation that may be solved for x.

There are many online lessons and video examples covering systems of two equations. :)
