"how to work it" What does that mean?

10/5 = 2

-10/5 = -2

10/(-5) = -2

-10/(-5) = 2

What are you looking for?

Sorry, not a helpful response.

10/5 = 2 -- Memorize it. Is that "figuring it out"?

There are only four possibilities for this problem. I listed them all in my first post.

Can you show an example of one you can "figure out"? Maybe I can figure out what you mean.

If you divide two numbers with the SAME SIGN, the answer is positive. If you divide two numbers with DIFFERENT SIGNS, the answer is negative. In either case, the division is "normal" meaning it is what you learned in elementary school.

Take -10 / 5

The numbers have different signs, so you know the answer is negative. The division is "normal," meaning you do 10 divided by 5 to get the "number" part of the answer.

10 divided by 5 is 2, but since the numbers had different signs, the answer is negative.

10 divided by -5 is -2.

Basically, that's it.....
