help, 6th grade math is kicking my behind. Using PEMDAS....we can not figure out where the parenthesis are supposed to go on the following problems:
2.8+5-3=2 AND 9x0+5-3=4

any help would be appreciated. THANKS

This appears to make very little sense. Did you include the ENTIRE problem statement? It seems contradictory to say, "use PEMDAS" and "insert parentheses".

Using PEMDAS....we can not figure out where the
parenthes[e]s are supposed to go on the following problems:

2.8+5-3=2 AND

9x0+5-3=4

They look redundant together. If parentheses are used, then you should
be automatically using PEMDAS.

Suppose the question were along the lines of:

"Using the usual PEMDAS rules, insert parentheses to make true statements."

First problem:

2((.8(+5) - 3) =

2(4 - 3) =

2(1) =

2

------------------------------------------------------

My opinion on the 2nd problem:

I believe there is a typo in the second one, because
I cannot see how that could work with the added
parentheses.

Because of the horizontal ellipsis, I think that the phrase "Using PEMDAS" is intended to denote the precursor "We are currently using what we've learned about PEMDAS".

I'm with lookagain, on the second one.

Here's an altered version that's workable:

9x0+5-3+139=4

9 X 0 + 5 - 3 = 42

Thanks for all the replies. As I suspected....both problems contained typos from the teacher therefore neither one had a solution as it was written. We can't all be perfect, even teachers make mistakes sometimes too.
