Percentage question

can someone please tell me why when I do this:

80 x 1.25

I get this

=100

But......

When I do this

80 / .75

I get this

=106.66

I do understand that this is called mark up vs. margin but mathematically I cant quite seem to figure out why there is a difference

Think of it this way:

In the first part you are doing 80* (5/4) which can be thought of as: 80/(4/5)

But in the second part you are doing 80/(3/4).

in order for these to things to give the same result you would need to change the first part to 80 * 1.333333

OR you could change the second part to 80 * 0.8.
