I'll do a similar problem (9x +5)(4x - 3) - (6x + 1)^2 expand the terms (9x +5)(4x-3) = 36x^2 - 27x + 20x - 15 = 36x^2 - 7x - 15 ... collect similar terms (6x +1)^2 = 36x^2 + 12x + 1... collect similar terms So (9x +5)(4x - 3) - (6x + 1)^2 = 36x^2 - 7x - 15 - (36x^2 + 12x + 1) = 36x^2 - 7x - 15 - 36x^2 - 12x - 1... collect similar terms = - 19x - 16
