22. If f(x)=kxsquared and f(2)=12, then k equals...3?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

1. right value, wrong sign.

2. needs rewriting.
f-1(x). is that f-1(x) meaning the inverse?
Is f(x) (1/x)-2 or 1/(x-2)?

3. assuming
f9x0 = f(x) = x-3
f(4)=1
g(4)=27
f(4)/g(4) = 1/27

4. f(2) = -1
g(2) = 2² = 4

5. y = f(x) = -(x+3)/2
x = -(2y+3)
f-1 = y = -(2x+3)

6. if f(x) = |x³-3| then correct.

7. correct

8. correct

9. If f(x) = |x-3|-2
The smallest value, f(x)=-2, is at x=3

10. The inverse has to be a function. It can't be a constant.

I need a break.

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

In my opinion, you've asked for WAY too much.

I'll pick a few questions to answer.

12. f(x) = 4x^2
Is this a function? if you pick a value for x, is it possible to come up with more than one value for f(x)? If not, then f(x) is a function.

13. Correct

14. I assume that this is a multiple choice question, and you haven't indicated what the other answer choices might be. However, if x = 7, then f(x) = 1/sqrt(x - 3) would be f(x) = 1/sqrt(7 -3). And f(x) = 1/sqrt(4).....which is certainly real.

15. If g(x) = x + 3. then g(a) = a + 3
We know that f(x) = x^2 - 2
So, f(g(a)) = (a + 3)^2 - 2
f(g(a)) = a^2 + 6a + 9 - 2
Simplify this....

17. True

18. you know that f(x) = (1/2)x^2
find f(-2) by substituting -2 for x
find f(2) by substituting 2 for x
Then subtract the values you got in the previous two steps.

19. You know that
y - 7 = 2x

To find the inverse, start by switching x and y:
x - 7 = 2y

Solve this for y, and you will have the inverse of the original function.

20. If f(x) = g(x), then
x^2 - 2x = (5/2)x + 5
Multiply both sides by 2 to get rid of the fraction:
2x^2 - 4x = 5x + 10
2x^2 - 9x - 10 = 0
now, factor the left side, set each factor equal to 0, and solve for x. Remember that you are looking for the value of x which is NEGATIVE.

21. if f(x) = x^2 - 3, then f(a - b) = (a - b)^2 - 3.....you can do the simplification.

That's it for me tonight.

Last but not least . . .

11. Close, but what happens when \(\displaystyle x \leq -2\) ?

16. Correct

22. Correct!

11. -5 is <2. Does that work?

16. & 18. & 22. Correct.
