A tunnel, in the shape of a parabola, is built under a road. The width of the tunnel, at the bottom, is 32 m. The height if the tunnel, at the center, is 10 m. There is 4 m of dirt between the top of the tunnel and the road travelling above it. Determine the equation of the parabola if;
a) the origin is on the road directly above the ton of the tunnel (round your numbers to 3 decimal places where necessary)
b) the origin is at the bottom right of the tunnel
c) Vehicles passing under the tunnel can get as close as 1.5 m from the "sides" of the tunnel. what is the maximum height a vehicle can be and still fit under the tunnel? (use your equation from "a")

Hello Pear. What have you done so far? Have you drawn a diagram? Please let us know where you need help. Thank you.

You got the general formula right, but then you replace p by 16 and q by 10 -- why?
