The Crossways Eco Arch house is constructed around a unique parabolic arch constructed from handmade clay tiles glued together. The house is 8 metres high at its maximum peak and spans 20 metres.

a) Write a quadratic function in vertex form that models the shape of the roof of the house, using the bottom right as the origin.

b) Determine the height of the arch that is 3 meters from its outer edge.

c) The part of the house that “juts" out is centred in the house and is 5 m high. If it touches the roof on both sides, how wide is that section?

did you make a sketch as described in the problem statement ?
if so, then it should be clear that you have three points on the parabola …

(-20,0) , (-10,8) , and (0,0)

vertex form is [imath]y = a(x-h)^2+k[/imath]

see what you can do from here

in question a. Y= -2/25(x-10)^2 +8?

you got the function that models the roof … continue working the problem
