I say that the equation A=256(B÷2) can be simplified into A=128B. Colleagues disagree with me, saying (B÷2) isn't valid. I say that B÷2 is the same as B/2, which is also equal to 0.5B and that 256 x 0.5B equals 128 B, therefore A = 128B. A=256(B÷2) is the initial format the equation was written as. (I found the "old fashioned" divide sign's character symbol is ALT 0247). Thanks for your help! dhjmom

I disagree with your colleagues.

128B a simplified form of 256(B/2)

By the way, the "divided by" symbol ÷ is not old-fashioned; it's still used in thousands of classrooms and books today.
