On day 1 4 people are sent an email, on day 2 , each of the 4 send it to 4 more people and so on, each person sends email just once.
How many people have received the email by day 4???

Can we see your attempt at this problem, even if you are sure that you are wrong? This way we know what help you need. This process is actually in our guidelines. Did you forget to read them?

Well,
First day 4 person gets 4 email
And then 4 people send out 4 each emails
4x4
Second day, third day and fourth day
4x4x4x4 but apparently it’s wrong?

You may be misinterpreting the question. A way to clarify that is to work it out in detail for small numbers.

Day 1: 4 person receive it. Each will send 4 the next day.
Day 2: 16 people receive it, for a total of 4+16 = 20 so far. Each of the 16 sends 4 emails the next day.
Day 3: 64 people receive it, ...

Do you see what you missed? Do you also see that you may be off by 1 in your counting of days, depending on what "by day 4" means (by the start, or by the end)?

Ok, still the right answer is from the answer sheet is 340. Still doesn’t get it there ?
64x4= 256 but answer is 340??

Use exponents.
Day 1- (4^1)
Day 2-(4^2)
Day 3-(4^3)
Day 4-(4^4)

Now add them together.
