Hello,
My son has an assignment where he must fill in the days of the calendar (31 days) using each of these variables to come up with the number for each day--

a=1
b=2
c=3
d=4

for example, for day 1 he has already figured ba + c-d = 1
for day 2 -- b+d-c-a = 2
for day 3 -- d/b+c+a = 3

and so on

he can use exponents

we are stuck on 16
26
27
29
and 30.

could you please give any direction for solving? Thank you

There isn't any; it's more of a puzzle...

16: 4^(3+1-2)
27: 3^(4+1-2)
29: 3^(4-1) + 2 ; also 2^(1+4) - 3

In case sticking 2 digits together is allowed:
26: 23 + 4 - 1
30: 13 * 2 + 4

Denis,

Thank you so much! Just what we needed. And yes, the assignment is a huge puzzle--due on Friday and thanks to you -- complete and correct. Thanks again.
