Hello:
I want to change this direct proportion into an indirect proportion and solve for the answer:
40 feet of wire rope weigh 26 pounds. What is the length 65 pounds of the same kind of rope weigh?
Direct Proportion Solution: Feet 40/? = Pounds 26/65
Answer ? = 100 feet
I think that the above would be as follows:
Indirect Proportion Solution: 40/? = (1/65)/(1/26)
100 = [40 X (1/26)]/(1/65)
So, the proportion is as follows: 40/100 = (1/65)/(1/26)
I thank you for your reply and helpful comments.
