Hello all! Ok I know the quad formula is

x=-b±√b^2-4ac
---------------
2a

So my equation is:

x^2+8x-6=0

So I get to the point of:

-8±√88
---------
2

Now do since i cant get get a nice number for the root of 88, I split it up:

-8±√2*44
-----------
2

this gives me

2(-8±√44)
----------
2

Now what do I do?? Do the two's cancel out and thats my answer or do I have to divide everything by 2? And what would my answer be then?

THank you in advance for the help guys. I really need it.

Huh?

[-8 +- sqrt(88)] / 2
= [-8 +- sqrt(4 * 22)] / 2
= [-8 +- 2sqrt(22)] / 2
= -4 +- sqrt(22)

Kapish?

Ah I took out 2 when I should have taken 4 out then the √4*22 = 2√22. So it be

-8+-2√22
--------
2

Then dividing -8 by 2 and 2 by 2 = -4+-√22 as the answer??
