Hi Guys I want a Solution of a ratio problem. The problem is :-

Q: A certain amount of money is shared between 2 boys Rui Feng and Vishal in the ratio of 5:9. If Rui Feng gets $44 less than Vishal. Find the total amount of money that is shared between the 2 boys?

Note:- If you want the solution you can have it but you have to explain it.

Hint:What do you need to find? - total amount of money (T) shared between boys

Let:

The amount of money Rui has = R

The amount of money Vishal has = V

You need to calculate T = R + V

Let R be the amount of money Rui Feng gets and let V be the amount of money Vishal gets. Rui Feng gets $44 less than Vishal: so F= V- 44. They share the
in the ratio of 5:9 so \(\displaystyle \frac{R}{V}= \frac{V- 44}{V}= \frac{5}{9}\). Solve that equation for V then subtract 44 to find R. The total amount of money is R+ V

the difference in the ratio is 4 units
that 4 units is equal to 44, so 1 unit is equal to 11
can you find Rui's money then?
can you find Vishal's money then?
add them up will give you the total right? :)

This is a nice non-algebraic method, which may be what is needed considering the category (arithmetic).

This can also be thought of visually, making strips 5 and 9 units long and labeling parts.

It also translates into a simple algebraic method, if we say that the two boys' amounts are 5k and 9k for some unknown k, and observe that 9k - 5k = 44.
