(y+7)(y-7)../..y-7
5y+5..............y+1

(y+7)(y-7)..times..y+1
5(y+1)...................y-7

=y+7
.....5

Is this correct? If not, where did I make a mistake? :?

Keep in mind that that simplification is not true for y = 7 and y = -1. If y is either of those numbers the expression becomes meaningless.
