The author discusses the world of real numbers in the early pages of the textbook. He simply made a comment about adding a rational number with an irrational. My post stems from that ONE COMMENT by Michael Sullivan.

Michael Sullivan stated that the sum of a rational plus irrational equals irrational but no reason was given. Now, I found the following clip below.

Proof: sum of rational & irrational is irrational

The sum of any rational number and any irrational number will always be an irrational number. This allows us to quickly conclude that ½+√2 is irrational.
