solve the explicit formula dm=m^3+4m^2-3m+1

I'm having trouble with a bunch like this, like when a sub 1 =4
and a sub (k+1)= 3(sub ak)*7 for all k less than or = 1
what does this all mean?!

This is the explcit formula for some function.
What does "solve it" mean?
Are they asking us to find the recurrence relation?

I understand: a₁ = 4 . . . the first term is 4.

The next statement should tell us how a_k+1 is related to the preceding term, a_k,
. . but it doesn't make sense.

Besides, k is a natural number: 1, 2, 3,...
. . That statement should be: . k <u>></u> 1

we're working in groups, where each group gives the other homework, this is what it says. No wonder im having issues with it. Thank you for looking at it. i will just leave them blank.
