I'm having a tough time figuring out restrictions and simplifying these fractions on the problems above, I just don't know where to start.

Please explain fully anyone!

WHY? Are you doing this on your own...no teacher?

"Please explain fully anyone!"

Explaining fully requires a classroom environment...

C'mon bud, be realistic...

Problem#5 asks you to simplify;
to simplify, you need to FACTOR the numerator,
then cancel out like terms if possible;
you gave no indication where you're at;
tell us WHERE you're stuck!

Problem#4 asks you for the restrictions on the variable a;
in a fraction, the denominator CANNOT equal zero;
example: if x - 2 is a denominator, then x cannot equal 2;
that should be enough of a hint for you.

Since we cannot teach courses within this environment (and you seem to be asking for such), please review the following online resources instead:

. . . . .AnalyzeMath: Simplify Rational Expressions

. . . . .WTAMU: Simplifying Rational Expressions

. . . . .Rational Expressions: Finding the Domain

. . . . .Rational Expressions: Simplifying

. . . . .AnalyzeMath: Domain of Rational Expressions

(You also might want to review Chapter 31 of your STARS "text", before continuing with your online STARS test.)

Once you have studied some or all of these lessons and have learned the basic terms, concepts, and methods, please attempt these exercises.

If you get stuck, please reply showing all of your steps and stating where you are stuck -- helping you through the steps of something for which you have the background information is something we can do here.

Thank you.

Eliz.

So I guess this board has no point then if I can't get help?
No point for you? Maybe, unless you change your ways. Reasonable requests always are welcome.
