Hello,

Starting with 575.50, I added 2 percentage increases (25% and then 7%), to get to a figure of 769.73.

My question is, if I were to only know the final figure of 769.73, and the 2 percentage increases, could I work out the original figure of 575.50 in only one single calculation?

Many thanks,

NathanMan

Yes.

Assume 'x' is your original figure. Then add the increases as functions of 'x' and solve for 'x'.

Yes. What were your steps for doing the increases? Combine them into one step. Then do them backwards (dividing, rather than multiplying) to reverse your work. ;)
