If they gave you a formula for finding the vertex (namely, h = -b/(2a) and k = f(h)), then use that formula to find the coordinates of the vertex.
Then find a point on the graph (such as by letting x = 0, so y = 6, so you have the point (x, y) = (0, 6)), and plug that point and the vertex into the "vertex form" of the equation. Solve for "a". :wink:
