Another word problem! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Smith bicycled 45 miles and Jones bicycled 70 miles. Jones aveaged 5 miles per hour more than Smith and his trip took 1/2 hour longer than Smiths. How fast was each one traveling? Thanks!

Use the standard "d = rt" formulation. Pick a variable for Smith's speed. Write an expression for Jones' speed. Then create an equation relating the times of the two men.

If you get stuck, please reply showing all of your work and reasoning. Thank you.

Eliz.
