Rounding numbers

Hello. Have you experimented with numbers to see what sort of numbers round to have a zero in both the ones and tens place? Please share what you've tried or thought about. Thank you!

I did. And I am confused. This is homework for my 9 year old. I am trying to figure it out not to give him the answer but to probe and guide him.

Try different numbers!
Say 810 and 736
Rounding off to the nearest 10 gives us 810 + 736 = = 810 + 740 = 1550≠1600
Rounding off to the nearest 100 gives us 810 + 736 = 800 + 700 = 1500
The above did not work

Try two other numbers that may work.
Try 842 and 766
Rounding off to the nearest 10 gives us 842 + 766 = = 840 + 770 = 1610≠1600
Rounding off to the nearest 100 gives us 842 + 766 = 800 + 800 = 1600≠ 1500
This did not work.

Can you see how you might modify the above numbers so that they will work.
Let your your 9 year old think about why some pair of numbers are not working and how you might modify them to work.

Even if you don't see the answer, just have fun guessing and in the end when you find a pair of numbers that work you and your 9 year old can discuss about why that pair works and how you can come up with another pair of numbers that will work
