Sample Size Calculator Output - Does it show Mailed or Response volume required?

Hi all this is my first time posting and hope that someone might be able to help with my direct mail test.

Using online calculators or the formula behind these calculators(see attached pdf) where:

• population is 5000,
• Standard Deviation (p(1-p)) used is 0.5,
• Calculated at 95% confidence and
• 5% margin of error

Then my required sample size appears to be 357.

However, is that 357 mailed or 357 responses?
