Please show me how to simplify these problems also how to evaluate one. I promise this is my last question. I had 84 problems I' am doing ok just to ask for help on 6 of them. you'll are wonderful

1) Simplify -2(2-5)dived by (-1)+7

2) Simplify: -4-radical symbol[49]+5with small 2 up top

I don't know how to make these symbols please tell me. I know how to do them in a word doc.

3) Evaluate 6x-2y when x=-1and y=4.

Please help me out on explaining how to understand this. THANKS

To learn how to type math, please follow the links provided in the "Forum Help" pull-down menu at the very top of every forum page, leading to resources such as "Karl's Notes".

Thank you. :D

Simplify -2(2-5)dived by (-1)+7

\(\displaystyle \L \frac{-2(2-5)}{(-1)+7} \,=\, \frac{-2(-3)}{6} \,=\, \frac{6}{6} = 1\)

Cheers-

John.

-4 - sqrt(49) + 5^2

reads this way: minus 4 minus square root of 49 plus 5 squared

Can you finish it?

What do you not understand here? Simply substitute the given values:
6(-1) - 2(4)

OK?
