(x2/3y-1/3)1/3
__________ I don't understand why the answer is x1/18over 2y4/9
8x1/2y

I multiplied the x2/3 by(1/3) and took the y1/3 -1/3to get 8x1/2(1/3)y(1/3) I came out with x1/3over 2x1/6y1/3 if you could explain I would be very greatful and not as confused. thank you

Please repost CLEARLY.
Show stuff like x squared this way: x^2

What does x1 mean? A variable? x^1?

(x2/3y-1/3)1/3
Is this a multiplication by 1/3 or is it (x2/3y-1/3)^(1/3)

If you're not sure how to post something clearly, ask someone who knows.

I'm afraid I can't figure out what you mean by the above...? To learn how to format math as text, try here.

I think you're working with fractional exponents, and are having difficulty with simplifying. If so, then please study the basic rules for exponents and also how to simplify with exponents.

Once you have learned the basic terms and techniques, please attempt the exercise. If you get stuck, you will then be able to reply with a clear listing of your steps and reasoning so far. Thank you! :D
