Hint:

\(\displaystyle p^2+p-20\)

will factor as

\(\displaystyle (p+a)(p+b)\)

where

\(\displaystyle b+a = 1, ab=-20\)

So start by considering factors of 20.

2p2+2p-45=-5
2p2 + 2p -45=-5
-2 -2 +5 +5

p-40
Jonathan... are you a student attending math classes?
Note to original poster: The question posed in the previous reply is not a criticism; it is asked for our benefit.

If you are in a class, then you've been placed in the wrong class for you, and our advice would probably be something along the lines of "have a serious talk with your academic advisor!". If, on the other hand, you're trying to do some self-study, then we would start by trying to figure out what sorts of lesson links you need, in order to fill the gaps in your background knowledge.

Thank you! ;)
