Solve this system by elimination. Show ALL of your work.

x + 6y = 8
2x - 6y = 16

Just add the two equations. Did you attend class and/or read your notes/textbook?

X + 6y = 8
-X+ 3y = -8

Sum the equation vertically to eliminate at least one variable
9y = 0

Divide both sides by 9
y = 0

substitute the given value of y into the equation X + 6y = 8

X + 6(0) = 8

Solve the equation for X

X = 8

Solution: (X,Y) = (8,0)

OK, fine. Please watch this video here and come back if you have any questions after viewing it.

Please do not solve the problem - till and untill the OP has shown significant effort towards solving the problem.
