Given that 5^2+3^2=x^2, x is equal to ___

I thought is was 8^2

However, my choices are 6, square root 36, square root 34

I think 6 and the square root of 36 are the same thing correct?

Is there a website that explains square roots in simple terms? My text book is REALLY confusing.

the answer is root 34

a square root is a number to the power of 1/2

eg

6^2=36

36^1/2 or root 36=6

4^2=16

16^1/2 or root 16=4
