scetch the curve f(x)= (x^3+4x^2+x+4)/(2+2x^2) with out using a graphing calculator. I don't know how to figure out slant asymtotes!

Try long division! You should get a*x + b + c/(2x^2 + 2), or something that looks similar to that.
