Professor Leonard tells his students on You Tube not to take calculus to fail algebra. What do you make of this comment?

It is pithy and wise wit.

What it means is that you can grasp calculus conceptually but fail the course because you cannot perform the algebra required. In other words, calculus requires skill in algebra, not merely competence.
