This is a very elementary operation. The domain of a function is all of the x-values for that problem. This "definition" may seem quite confusing if you do not know how to graph this equation. One you graph it you will see that the domain is all the values of x that are found in the graph. So the domain will be all real numbers from (-inf,3],[3,+inf).

Its obvious he meant (-inf,3), (3, inf), which is still incorrect...

Tanya, the domain in the sense that this problem is asking is the set of all x values that:

1. Do not make a zero in the denominator
2. Do not create a negative under a square root
