The diagonal of of a rectangular storage room is 9 yards long. If the length is 3 times the width, find the dimensions of the room.
So I know that we need to to the whole a^2+b^2=c^2... But I must be messing up somewhere. Here is what I have done:
x^2+3x^2=9^2. The if you combine the x^2+3x^2 you come out with 4x^2=81. Taking the square root of each side I get 9=2x and x=9/2.
BUT... When I go back to check it taking (9/2)^2+(27/2)^2 it doesn't equal 9^2. So I don't know what I did wrong.
