:D Hi, I'm having trouble with this transversal ?, can someone help me? Thanx a bunches :wink:

Line AB and Line CD intersect at E. If m<AEC= (4x-40) degrees and m<BED= (x+50), find the number of degrees in <AEC.

I only know that 4x-40=x+50, then do I subtract 40 from both sides? or is that 50 from both sides? :?:

4x-40=x+50........................subtract x from each side of equal sign
3x-40=50............................add 40 to each side of equal sign
3x=90.................................divide both sides of equal sign by 3
x=30 answer

I suggest you do the problem in another way, such as: subtract 4x from each side,subtract 50 from each side , multiply both sides by -1, divide both sides by 3
