How do you find the area of a triangle when you only have one side length which isn't the base?

Draw a line. Construct 2 triangles that have this line as a side. Do the 2 triangles always have the same area?

I do not think you have posted the COMPLETE problem.

Please post the EXACT problem statement.

Exactly why can't you call any of the 3 sides of a triangle the base?
As pointed out by Khan, you can't find the area of a triangle with the length of just one side. Think about it!
