Hi I've been trying to simplify this expression fo r2 days w/o much luck. I would appreciate some help.

(sec y +csc y)/ (1+ tan y)

I break it down into (1/cos y + 1/sin y) / (1 + sin y/cos y) but I dont know where to go from there. Thanks.

Put the fractions in the numerator and denominator over their respective LCDs (so the entire numerator in the top and bottom halves are over one thing.)

Hi thanks Gene. I got csc y as a final answer. Can you comfirm that for me. Thanks.

Nice work. Also, you can always check your answer by plugging in a suitable number for y and see if the output from the original expression is the same as your simplified version.
