If a 14 ft. diameter sheave is used to drive a cable car, at what angular velocity must the sheave turn in order for the cable car to travel 11 miles per hr? Give your answer in revolutions per minute.

I don't know how to solve this?

14 ft * pi = 1 turn of the wheel.

11 mph = How many ft/sec? You tell me.

How many revolutions are required to achieve that many ft/sec?

If you continue to struggle with these, look up "Dimensional Analysis" for a thorough review.

I would start by converting mile/hour to feet/minute.

This will tell you the number of feet that the cable must move in one minute.

With each revolution of the sheave, the cable moves a distance equal to the sheave circumference, right?

So, divide the number of feet that the cable must move in one minute by the circumference, to find the number of revolutions in one minute.
