suppose y1 and y2 both satisfy the equation
y"+p(t)y'+q(t)y=0
show for any pair os constants (C1 and C2) the functions y=C1y1+C2y2 will satisfy the same equation.
I'm really lost here, been trying to use the characteristic polynomial to do something which doesn't seem to be going anywhere (just end up with a big messy quadratic).
