Vertex form for quadratic function

Now finding the x intercept
0.25(x-3)2 - 9.25 = 0
0.25(x-3)2 = 9.25
 
(x - 3)2 = 37
x = √37 ± 3

Please tell me what number or numbers, if any can go in between these parenthesis? ( )2 = 37. Please do not think of x's or 3's or x-3, just think what can go inside the parenthesis.
 
It has always been x - 3 between the parenthesis but 5.2 is the closest to being squared to equal 37
 
The answer to my question is (±sqrt(37))2= 37.

So whatever happens to be in the parenthesis better equal ±sqrt(37)

That is x-3 = ±sqrt(37) and x=3 ±sqrt(37)

You had it the other way.
