Please tell me what number or numbers, if any can go in between these parenthesis? ( )² = 37. Please do not think of x's or 3's or x-3, just think what can go inside the parenthesis.

It has always been x - 3 between the parenthesis but 5.2 is the closest to being squared to equal 37

So whatever happens to be in the parenthesis better equal ±sqrt(37)

That is x-3 = ±sqrt(37) and x=3 ±sqrt(37)

You had it the other way.
