The slope of a line is the ration of the change in y-coordinates to the corresponding change in the x-coordinates. The slope tells you how steep a line is.
The slope equals:
change in y-coordinates
_____________________
change in x-coordinates
which is the same as:
y2-y1
______
x2-x1
The slope of a line stays the same no matter what two points on the line are used.
I think it is important to know that "slope" is a concept, not an object. You cannot go down to the store and buy three slopes. It describes a linear relationship between two quantities.
